Plant a Tree for TTE

EXMOUTH has already seen some tree-planting initiatives promoted by the Town Council. Now Transition Town Exmouth is branching out with its own campaign.

On Saturday 31 March at 11.30am, TTE plans to plant nearly 50 trees in an area just off Pound Lane, opposite Greenfingers Garden Centre. The site – part of the former Dennesdean Farm – has been approved by Mark Pollard, Parks Development Officer for East Devon District Council.

“We were pleased that TTE approached us with their initiative,” said Mr Pollard. “The land – adopted by EDDC as public space to go with housing development – has a stream running through it, so obviously trees will go well there. Small trees need to be planted in fairly protected conditions. Realistically you have to expect a 50% failure rate, but obviously with nearly 50, there are a lot of them, so even if you lose half, there should be a lot left.”

“We’re delighted that EDDC approved some land for us,” said TTE’s Elinor Scott. “Greenfingers Garden Centre is kindly sponsoring our tree-planting event, and will be providing free soup for lunch! Participants should bring a spade and/or a fork, boots, suitable clothing and a watering can if they’ve got one. A donation towards TTE would also be much appreciated.”

After the event, TTE hopes that participants will join them at Greenfingers Streamside café for celebratory tea and cakes.

TTE’s spring programme continues with Cafe Etc… on Saturday 14 April. More details soon about this event.
