“We are working with Exmouth Town Management in the development of shopping bags made from recycled material by a local workforce, firstly to discourage the use of plastic bags but secondly to develop skills for resilience and to provide a sustainable source of shopping bags for Exmouth”
We having been running free workshops in Exmouth to teach people how to make bags from recycled materials to a variety of patterns; all that is needed is a bit of time, a sewing machine and some inspiration. You can earn some money as you get a share of the profit of each bag sold. see contact above for more information.

Future Bags and Bags for the Future!
The bags that we have been making out of industrial left overs and recycled fabric have been popular with makers and customers alike. I have received several requests for special colours and sizes to be made ; the beautifully decorated bags made at the last workshop are on sale at the Farmer’s Market- this is held every second Wednesday of the month on Exmouth’s Strand Gardens - come and support us and check out local produce at the same time. Some bags have been made from remodelled jeans and corduroy skirts, with Indian scarves and machine embroidery used as a decoration.
Ring Daphne Currier on 01395 279656 for more information- we are looking for more skilled people to teach the various bag making methods so that they can - hopefully - set up bag making workshops of their own - or help out on the workshop days. It would be good if the work spreads so that plastic bags are replaced by long lasting re-usable cloth bags made from locally sourced fabrics with a minimal carbon footprint. Half of the profit from each bag sold goes to the person who made it so we are also hoping to support the local community in this way. Proposed future projects using fabric include covered litter bins using flower buckets from stores which use them only once for delivery, oven gloves and aprons- this development is on my plan for the Summer holidays- so that we have a stock of goodies.
